We are excited to start Phase 1 of our Building Project to expand and improve St. Paul's facilities to better serve college-aged students at Wichita State and beyond. The first phase, which begins in the summer of 2026, includes the following priorities:

  • Increased Parking
  • Additional Access Road to the East of St. Paul
  • New Rectory

These priorities will assist St. Paul in the short term and set our Student Center up for increased growth and building. Please see below for renderings of the improvements. We are hoping to have the parking lot finished in the Fall of 2026 and the rectory completed in the Spring of 2027.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the goals of this project?

Over the next few months, we will be doing three main things.

Firstly, we will be adding additional parking at St. Paul. If you have attempted to attend 11:45am Mass during the week, you've experienced the mess that comes from trying to park on the grass and running into dead ends. We've simply outgrown our parking lot, and we need more space!

Secondly, we have worked with Wichita State to provide a second entrance to the St. Paul facility. You will soon be able to enter and leave the parking lot from further east on 17th Street, limiting the traffic jams and dangerous situations that came about from our one entrance option.

Thirdly, we are creating a new and larger rectory to house our priests. Our current rectory served us well for over 75 years, but is in need of major renovations and is not fit for more than one full-time priest. Our Diocese and Bishop have named "Healthy Priests" as a major goal moving to the future, and living with other priests is a large part of this. The new rectory will allow several priests to live together in community, as well  as offering a hospitable place for priests from around the region to stay while they are visiting St. Paul and Wichita. In addition, the new space will host student, parish, and Diocesan events, making it a space for our entire community.

In addition, several utility projects, including gas, electric, and plumbing, are being attended to in order to put us in an excellent position for future building projects.

Why were these goals chosen at this time?

The Diocese of Wichita is currently concluding their highly successful One Family, Fully Alive in Christ Diocesan Campaign. Over the past several years, significant attention has been rightly placed on the bigger picture needs of the Diocese, including the Cathedral, our new Camp, and teacher salaries. During this time, parish fundraising campaigns have not been a possibility. Our community named these needs, and recognized that we had the funds to achieve them without a Capital Campaign. Taking these objectives seriously at this time allowed us to grow  our campus, improve our footprint, and show our seriousness in growing our ministry at a time that larger scale projects were not possible. Instead of waiting several years to break ground, we discerned the need to begin with these needed projects while we could!

How were they paid for?

Over the past few years, we have been diligent in monitoring our expenses and saving money for future projects. The current building projects are being paid for exclusively from cash on hand! We are proud of our fiscal responsibility and the reality of achieving these goals without a Capital Campaign.

What's next?

Pray for us! We know that the future of the Church largely rests on ministry to our young people. Our dream is to provide a world class location for evangelization for college aged students and our entire Diocese.
